Black is anything in the universe with incredible gravitational pull in the universe. In a star hydrogen and helium atom fuses to give higher atomic molecules and so other elements fuses like to form silicon and finally iron, and the star appears red. This star is called red giant. But because of its own mass of iron, it explodes forming a structure called super nova. And the point of the supernova that has been collapsed to infinitesimal point pulls everything back to its center. it swallows everything in its path with no return. It can be imagined as a huge tunnel on the surface of earth that leads to anywhere no one knows! ( I think it has to do something with warm hole)

Even light do not escape from its gravity. To prevent the black hole it should have the escape velocity faster than the speed of light.

Black hole releases the x ray energy and only thing that can escape black hole is a radiation. The is also a massive black hole in the center of our milky way galaxy which is 30 thousand light years away from solar system and is 10 20 billion times bigger the sun.  That means we are in the verge of being engulfed by black hole. But when is that time/ god knows!
